Reviews

This video will demonstrate how great a guitarist Johnny Winter is. The quality of the film could have been better, but I guess the original footage was fair. The video quality is great from the point of Mad Dog to the last song from Spain. Then Highway 61 is on a low side. There was a sound problem from the get go at MSG. There is no player dead or alive who could play like Johnny. His long jams never get played out. Notes, cords are pure, clear and fluent. His guitar does the talking. The best blues player ever. Sit down, and enjoy the the show. If you don't agree with my assessment of the greatness of JW'S playing, well then maybe I should keep listening to others or should I say looking for others, but I covered everyone already.....Enjoy

Review of Pieces and Bits, in the German Magazine Blues News September 2002

Computer translation: Johnny winters Pieces & bit (DVD/in acoustics, 78:00) the quite sympathetic Intro with photos from private archives of the family, unpublished so far, Winter's and introductory words of Johnny follows a composition of quite old filmmaterial in partially very modest picture and tone quality. An appearance with Muddy Waters besides after few seconds is again faded out. With the photographs of recent date (1984 and 1992) the image quality is o.k., the sound remains however only moderate again halfway. A little surprises, because at least with the 92er appearance of winter in the context of the birthday party of Bob Dylan in the Madison Square Garden one might expect a better sound. Altogether a DVD with (at least for European Conditions) much rare material, which might please however winterdie-hard fans primarily. Altogether the DVD of winter is to after-draw musical career, which takes place however only very superficially.
Also additional functions or data, e.g. references to individual occupations, one must laboriously from not always perfect companion countings zusammenreimen itself.
